paperwhites

By this time of the season, I have pots of wobbly paperwhites all over the house which I forced for Christmas. I find that I keep tending them as I can't be gardening, and love getting another week or so from the blooms. I cut them off from the bulbs and put loose bunches in big white pitchers. When they start fading, I trim down and put little bouquets in glasses for tablesettings or on the mantel. The bulbs go out in the woods under piles of leaves and most times they sprout in the spring with the daffodils!

Christmas lunch setting

A natural look for the table means a few simple touches such as votive candles, crates of mossy paperwhites and packaging with a bit of red and greenery...photograph by Wm P Steele
